Manly United and the northern beaches football community is united in grief following the sudden passing of former player Micky Williams.

“Michael’s passing has shaken many of the football community, illustrating the regard in which he was held at all levels of the game,” a Manly United spokesperson said.

“Michael came to Manly United as a player and was an incredibly popular member of the Manly United Football Club, forging friendships that continued well past his playing days both for Manly United and local MWFA Clubs CC Strikers and Seaforth.

“He touched people wherever he went and his love of the game, and the people he met along the way, is typified by the broad cross section of the football community that is feeling a sense of disbelief.”

Williams remained involved in football through various coaching roles and “in recent years took great joy in following and encouraging his son Ryker’s first steps on his football journey”, the club spokesperson said.

“Micky was well respected and loved by everyone who met him through the football world but was also a wonderful husband to wife Kate and father to Ryker, Zara and Zac.

“We all share the pain his family is going through and will be here to get behind Kate, Ryker, Zara and Zac,” the spokesperson said.

On a Go Fund Me page family friend Amy Trevitt said that Williams adored his wife Kate and their three children.

“They meant the world to him and he served them with all the love he had in his huge heart. His sudden passing has left them, his extended family and friends shell shocked, shattered and lost.

“Mick’s character as a person was exemplary and inspirational, his tireless commitment to his children and their passions was a fine example of a wonderful father as was his unwavering love and support for Kate.

“Mick was a man with many talents, ideas and dreams – dreams he had the drive, foresight and passion to pursue and fulfil – with the ultimate goal of providing for his family,” Trevitt said.
