An opening partnership of 179 between Wakehurst seconds’ Sean Nimmo (104) and Benjamin Wilson (72) was the highlight of a damp, relatively low-scoring weekend of MWCA cricket action.

Nimmo and Wilson’s mighty opening stand against Manly Warringah Rugby League CC at Lionel Watts sported 26 fours and 1 six, and set their side on the way to a commanding 2/217 from their allotted 35 overs.

Nimmo also scored 92 in the first round of the season and has thus notched the club’s two highest scores.

In reply the League XI were all out for 126 in 25 overs, with extras amassing 11.

With outfields long following seasonal rains (get used to it, we are in thrall to La Nina), many batters adopted a “more room in the air” approach, notably Warwick Symcox of Manly Breakers who clubbed 3 fours and 3 sixes in his 52 against Collaroy Plateau in third grade.

Symcox did not make the Team of the Week, however.e

Mona Vale’s Darren Clayton-Ashe certainly did, taking a catch and four wickets for just 10 runs to tear through Long Reef for 71 in Clifton D Leake first grade action.

Yet the dew had barely burned off Jacksons Road Warriewood when the Reef’s opening bowler Lewis Halliday took 4/6 and routed Mona Vale for 55.

Among the wickets elsewhere were Shawn Dwyer (4/12; Cromer 5ths v Harbord), James Horton (4/19; Beacon Hill 4ths v Cromer) and Harry Singh who took 4/28 in Wakehurst first grade’s Clifton D Leake Shield fixture against Cromer.

Shout out also to Micheal Rollins of Cromer thirds who ended with the economical and quite sexy figures of 3/0 against Beacon Hill.
