Ryleigh Saunders was a rock in defence, Lauren Bull was skilful in the forwards and booted six goals while Kate Salmon displayed her versatility, taking up a role away from her usual forward position to control the midfield.
All were sterling contributors in Forest Lions U/16s’ 51-point victory over Manly Bombers at Weldon Oval on Sunday.
Yet best on ground was Stella Knox who seemed to be everywhere, showing great effort in one-on-one contests and playing a vital support player role.
With Knox for inspiration the Forest girls used their bodies to win contests, in the end winning with flair despite a handful of U/14 fill-ins leaving halfway through the game.
Particularly impressive for Forest was Kaitlyn Palmer, a first season player who dominated in the centre, taking marks and setting up goals in the 8.11.59 to 2.0.12 victory.
