Senior, junior and suburban rugby will be kicking off very soon on these our northern beaches. Here’s what a few local clubs have planned in the pre-season.
Manly Marlins will hold their ever-popular golf day at Long Reef Golf Club this Friday March 24 and follow it up with an afternoon of eating, drinking and mingling with players and new coach Chris Delooze at the top bar of The Steyne Hotel. Player, group and hole sponsor spots still open via this internet hyperlink.
The mighty Allambie Jets, the pride of Allambie, defending premiers in U/11s, will hold their excellent Open Day this Friday at Allambie Scout Hall from 4pm-7pm. Rugby clinics with the excellent Mike Cross, along with free – FREE! – sausage sizzle and drinks for the kids. There’ll also be music and a open bar for adults. Along with a heap of games for the little ones, it’s a very good afternoon out. Details via the club’s Facebook page.
Once a Rat, always a Rat, they’ll tell you. And whether you have played one Colts game for the Warringah Rats or 300 in first grade, the club wants you to be part of the club! “We’re on a mission to create the most complete database possible of all ex-Rat players, coaches, managers, volunteers and officials,” the Club said in a statement (on Facebook). “We want to make it easy to connect with our rugby mates and our clubs history. Please register here and share with your networks of Rats.”

NSW Rugby Union will hold the Peninsula Cup Gala Day on April 5 from 8:30am to 3pm at Pittwater Rugby Park. “This will capture over 300 players from all over the northern beaches playing superb rugby 7s,” according to NSWRU development officer Luke Hurditch. The NSW Waratahs have a double-header on Friday 24 March at the all-new Allianz Stadium. The women play Western Force, the men the ever-entertaining Chiefs of the Waikato. #CrowdTheHouse, as they say. All registered junior rugby players (aged 16 and under) are free. Tickets here and here:
