Manly Savers rugby club was formed in 1909 and two years ago fielded junior teams for the first time.
On Sunday six of their teams will play in Sydney Rugby Union grand finals.
The U/13s, three teams of U/14s, the U/16s and Open Joint Venture (with Forest) will contest deciders at Nepean Rugby Park, Ryde Park and Forestville War Memorial Playing Field No 6.
“Its a massive effort,” former President of Seaforth Raiders Michael Clark says. “It’s a great story.
“The Savers were formed as a junior club to keep kids playing rugby in the Manly area.”
Savers President Johnny ‘Fridge’ Szaka said he’s “so happy to see my once little club thriving”.
“There is a fair bit that goes into a season like this, there isn’t one secret ingredient. It’s more a special mix, which is what the Manly sporting community seem to have the recipe for.
“We have had so much support from our community. The village clubs saw the positives in what we at Savers are doing and have really got behind it.
“Likewise, the Manly Marlins have been so supportive. And they can see the benefit of a clear pathway for young rugby players.
“The players themselves play with pride, honour and a tenacity which is becoming the hallmark of Savers Rugby.
“There are dozens of managers, coaches and volunteers who we owe a great thanks to and the parents who crowd sidelines every week and cheer on these young sportspeople.
“I think loving sport is in our DNA. And the support shown to our players gives them the drive to win,” Szaka said.
All games are on Sunday 28 August.
