Centuries to Daniel Horton of Beacon Hill and David Brady of Long Reef were the standout performances in a rain-affected weekend of Manly Warringah Cricket Association action.
Opening bat Horton’s century included 10 fours and 4 sixes and was by far the dominant contribution in Beacon Hill’s 8/167 in 35 overs against Wakehurst Red at Lionel Watts.
When Horton was third man out he had scored 105 of his team’s then total of 133.
In reply Wakehurst Red amassed 7/63 from 35 overs with Horton taking two catches.
Outscoring – and providing quite a bit more entertainment than – Wakehurst Red was Long Reef “Boothys” middle order man Brady who belted 100 not out in the Peter G. Moses Twenty20 Plate fixture against Seaforth at St Matthews Farm.
Brady smashed 10 fours and 8 sixes as the Reef finished with a competitive 5/217 in 20 overs.
Brady also featured in a 101-run fifth wicket partnership with Jeremy Farr who scored 10.
Enigmatic opener M Garrod scored 45 at the top of the order for the Reef.
Long Reef’s Matthew Bowlan then took 4/16 in four overs as Seaforth Slugs finished their chase nine wickets down and 77 runs in arrears.
At Melwood Oval “Holy” Joseph Bissett’s 48 was the standout innings as Harbord Bowling Club chased down Collaroy Electrics’ 89 in their Des Sainsbury Shield 5th grade affair.
And in the internecine warfare of the first grade Clifton D. Leake round 4 fixture between Wakehurst Red and Wakehurst Black at Lionel Watts, crafty Matthew Varjavandi (Red) took 4/33 from 7 overs.
Yet it wasn’t enough to prevent Black from chasing down Red’s 119 with four wickets in hand, James Wright’s 45 from 52 balls the major contributor.
